Today was an awesome day! My team, the Tega Cay All-Stars, played the Greenville Little League All-Stars for the State Championships in Irmo, SC. Things did not start great for us – we were down 3-0 going into the bottom of the third inning. Fortunately, we got some hits and got a little closer, scoring 2 runs. We kept going, but couldn’t seem to find our bats. Our normal catcher, Liam, had been sick and so Coach Jake and coach Scott decided to put me in at catcher. I think I did pretty good, considering it was only my second time to ever catch in a game. I almost got a runner out at home, but he ran into me really hard and I couldn’t hang onto the ball when we fell down. Things really looked bad for us when GLL scored 4 more in the top of the 6th to go up 7-2. Fortunately, we started hitting the ball and scores 4 runs when I got up to bat with 2 outs. I hit a great line drive in between 3rd and shortstop to keep our rally going. I also was able to beat a throw to 2nd when our lead-off hitter lined the ball to center field. It was really close. Fortunately, we tied the game on that play and ended up going into extra innings. We held them the next inning and were able to win the game with a double by Peyton, followed by a triple by Luca! It was a crazy finish to the season and all of our practice and hard work payed off. We even had Kyle Martin (the Gamecock’s first baseman) there to cheer us on. I played really well at pitcher and catcher, and had 3 hard hits (one was caught by their diving second baseman).
